Residents of Habba Kadal Friday alleged that J&K police Friday barged into their homes and beat up inmates while rounding up a youth.

Reports reaching here said that Wasim Ahmad Sheikh (22) son of Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh from Dalhassan Yar, Habba Kadal was detained by a posse of police party who were patrolling the area in search of alleged stone pelters.

Witnesses said, “some police personnel stormed his house and thrashed his mother and sister with batons before whisking him away.”

“He wasn’t involved in the protests,” said his mother. “He was just outside the road when police came and suspected him of being part of protests.”

When Kashmir Life reached the Shaheed Gunj Police Station for comment, the officials expressed ignorance on the issue of arrest. “I have no idea,” an official responded. “All our senior officials are there on ground.”
