National Conference on Wednesday paid tributes to Late Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq on his 25th death anniversary and Late Abdul Gani Lone on his 13h death anniversary.

Paying tributes to the slain leaders, NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah recollected their political contribution and termed them as moderate and rational voices that spoke fearlessly for peace and resolution, a party statement said Wednesday evening.

“Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq was an exemplary religious scholar and a committed social reformer whose role in politics was significant and was aimed at the welfare of his people. In his assassination, Kashmir lost a popular religious figure and an astute political mind. I pray for peace to Shaheed Mirwaiz’s soul and take this opportunity to underline the costs of turmoil and violence that Kashmir has had to pay,” Farooq said.

Farooq said Late Lone was a leader committed to the welfare and well-being of his people and always worked tirelessly for their interests.

“He was a strong voice of reason and logic and always spoke fearlessly. He was an ardent supporter of the empowerment of the common masses and was a votary of peace and resolution”, Farooq added.

NC Working President Omar Abdullah while paying tribute to Late Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq and Late Abdul Gani Lone on their death anniversaries underlined “the grave and heavy costs of violence that Kashmir has had to pay in the past and said the need of the hour was to look forward with an aim of reconciliation and justice so that the scars of the past could be healed”.
