Haj Application Numbers Drop in Jammu Kashmir, Only 28 Per Cent Quota Filled

   

SRINAGAR: Haj applications across Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed a sharp decline this year, with only 28.42 per cent of the total quota filled as of July 24, 2025. Out of an expected 7,896 applications, only 2,244 have been received.

Samba district recorded the highest number of applications with 19 out of a quota of 22 (87.61 per cent), followed by Pulwama with 194 applications out of 408 (47.60 per cent) and Srinagar with 527 applications out of 1,113 (47.36 per cent).

In contrast, districts like Poonch (10.08 per cent), Doda (12.95 per cent), and Kishtwar (17.47 per cent) are among the lowest performers.

Similarly, Kulgam recorded 32 per cent, Baramulla 29.57 per cent, Jammu 28.55 per cent, Budgam 28.47 per cent, Ganderbal 28.41 per cent, Kathua 28.01 per cent, Anantnag 25.03 per cent, Udhampur 23.06 per cent, Shopian 23 per cent, Rajouri 22.9 per cent, Bandipora 21.88 per cent, Reasi 18.29 per cent, Kupwara 17.98 per cent, and Ramban 17.94 per cent.

Officials attribute the low turnout to multiple factors, including economic constraints and procedural delays, urging prospective pilgrims to submit their applications at the earliest. (JKNS)
