The Srinagar bases spokesperson of Army Saturday evening issued a statement detailing the Handwara encounter in which one army man and two suspected militants were killed.

Two militants were today gunned down in an encounter with the security forces in Handwara, North Kashmir. One Army man was killed in the operation while another has been injured.

Continuing its relentless operations against the militants, the Army and JKP launched an operation in Boban Watsar forest, Handwara on receiving information about the presence of some militants. As the forces closed in, they drew fire from the militants resulting in the death of one army personnel NK Satish Kumar and injury to another.

In the ensuing gun battle, the Army killed two militants.

Besides other warlike stores, Two AK series of weapons, one UBGL and five radio sets have been recovered in the operation. The operation is underway.
