The government seems to be differentiating even between the two brothers. While Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti personally asked Sajjad Lone to help the government diffuse the explosive situation in Handwara, her government prevented the entry of his brother Bilal to enter the belt.
Sajad spent a day in Handwara and returned home Thursday morning. He had flown from Delhi to home after Chief Minister asked him to visit his own constituency that was boiling after a series of killings. Sajad represents Handwara in the state assembly.
In the afternoon when Sajad was home, his elder brother Bilal left for Handwara. As leader of the Mirwaiz led Hurriyat, Lone’s entourage was intercepted well before he could reach his home in Handwara.
Hurriyat sources said Bilal Lone was detained near Shoor in Putkhai area of Sopore while he was on way to Handwara.
People’s Conference has a strong base in the town which witnessed violence for last two days when four persons were shot dead by forces during protests following allegations of molestation by an army man.
Speaking to Kashmir Life, Hurriyat Conference (m) Media Coordinator, Shahid Ul Islam said, “Bilal Lone was heading a Hurriyat Conference (m) delegation to Handwara to express solidarity with the bereaved families.”
“He was detained by CRPF and local police at Shoor,” he added. “Ghulam Nabi Najar, Muzaffar Mir too were detained along with Bilal.”
