SRINAGAR

After three unarmed civilians were killed by forces in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday afternoon following alleged molestation bid by an army man, Srinagar based defence spokesperson Wednesday forenoon issued a statement.

The statement, with which a video was attached, said, “… in the video, the girl is denying any molestation by any army personnel at Handwara on 12 April 2016.”

“The army has verified the authenticity of the video and identity of the girl,” the army statement claimed.

“The girl says that she went to the nearby wash room along with her friend and suddenly a youth appeared before her and took her bag away. As per her statement in the video, the boy resisted her to come to nearby police station.

In the meanwhile, the other youth shouted slogans and instigated violence,” the statement said.

While this mysterious video was immediately brought down from its You Tube channel late Tuesday evening, army this morning came with its authentication, however, Kashmir Police Chief, SJM Gilani told Economic Times, “We are ascertaining, who shot the video and where was it shot. But as of now the girl has not given any written complaint. So, we cannot say anything. Right now our priority is to bring situation back to normal.”
