HANDWARA
The authorities Tuesday razed to ground the main chowk Bunker in North Kashmir’s Handwara.
Witnesses said that local authorities engaged JCB this morning and the dismantling of bunker started. The authorities have decided to hand over the space, which was occupied by army, to Forest and tourism departments.
Violent clashes had erupted following an alleged molestation by an army man posted in this bunker. The bunker was manned by 21 RR. The army men fled the spot when two youth fell to bullets on April 12 during protests against the alleged molestation. Three more persons were killed in following days.
Kashmir was completely shut for four days while curfew is still in place in some areas of Kupwara district.
Reports said that local lawmaker and chairperson of his People’s Conference faction, Sajad Gani Lone reached the spot this morning and addressed hundreds of people there while dismantling of the bunker continued.
Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, visited Kupwara on Saturday, April 16 and met the victim families. She assured justice to them while asking forces to follow SOP.
