J&K Police Friday brought Handwara minor girl from Zachaldara to the office of the J&K State Women’s Commission (SWC) at Srinagar.
“Initially, the minor girl and her father, in presence of DIG Central Kashmir talked to the Chairperson of SWC, Ms Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor without the presence of her lawyers. Later, Ms Nayeema Mehjoor allowed the legal team of the minor girl to intervene on behalf of her family,” Srinagar based rights defender group, JKCCS said in a statement late this evening.

“After hearing the girl and the arguments of legal team, Ms Nayeema Mehjoor directed the Police to not enter the house where the girl is residing at present and that she be allowed to meet with her family, friends and the legal team complying with the High Court directions,” the statement added.

Chairperson of the SWC also assured the family of the minor girl that the Commission would take all necessary steps for protecting the rights of the minor girl.

Later, Police took the girl along with her father back to Handwara. The case is now listed on 26 April 2016 in the J&K High Court.
