Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS) late Tuesday evening said that the police ended the “confinement” of Handwara’s minor girl.

“Finally, after 27 days, the illegal confinement of the Handwara minor girl and her family has been ended by the Police,” JKCCS spokesperson said late this evening.

“This comes after a sustained campaign in which all legal remedies were used by the family,” the spokesperson said.

Yesterday, the High Court had sought the affidavit by the family to end the “protective custody”, which will be submitted by the lawyers tomorrow but the “Police in a pre-emptive manner has ended the illegal detention even before the High Court has announced its decision”.

“We now hope that the Handwara minor girl will de-stress herself and very soon the next steps regarding her struggle for justice will be taken.

We thank each one of you who have supported the Handwara minor girl and her family. Insha Allah we all will always struggle together for truth and justice,” the spokesperson said.
