SRINAGAR: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, which was founded by the then Chief Minister Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir has been referred to as “Shri Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Srinagar” in a document uploaded on the National Health Mission website.

Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on one of his initial visits to SKIMS after the institute started functioning. Sheikh was the Chief Minister.

A document available on the National Health Mission website about the National Viral Hepatitis Programme has written the name of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) as “Shri Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences.” The document is available for download here:

SKIMS is a major tertiary care health facility that is deemed as a medical university. Its foundation stone was laid in 1978 and on 5th December 1982, SKIMS was thrown open to the public.

Reacting to this the General secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Ali Mohammad Sagar said “it seems a deliberate attempt.”

JKNC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said that “this is shocking. There are some ill intentions behind this. They should correct it immediately and seek an apology. By doing such kind of thing they want to mentally torture people.”

When contacted Medical superintendent of SKIMS he said that “let us do our work, we have nothing to do with it.”

Despite repeated calls, Director SKIMS Kashmir DR AG Ahanger did not respond to the calls.

Mission Director, National Health Mission, Mohammad Yasin Choudhary initially termed the document as “fake and concocted” on twitter. “This is a FAKE and CONCOCTED document. SKIMS Soura is not a Model Treatment Centre (MTC) under NVHCP (National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme) under NHM J&K. We clearly disown this piece this piece of wrong information @NHMJK5.”

However, he deleted his tweet and apologized, adding that “erroneous document has been taken down.”

“I apologize for the misinformed comment earlier. The erroneous docment has been taken down. There was a clerical error at the Ministry’s end that entailed the wrong full form in the ppt. Request everyone to please do not assume any unjustified notions.@NHMJK5 (sic),” he tweeted.
