Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader and Member of Parliament from Anantnag (Retd) Justice Hassnain Masoodi on Thursday released Rs 50 Lakh from his MPLAD fund, in addition to RS one Cr released earlier, for stepping up the response to combat the spread of COVID-19 in all the districts of Anantnag Constituency.

Of the total amount, RS twenty lakh has been released in favor of District development commissioner Anantnag and Rs ten lakh each to Kulgam, Shopian, and Pulwama district hospitals for the procurement of full body personal protection equipment (PPE) kits, N95 Masks, and three layer masks to combat the COVID-19 crises there. The seventy percent of the funds shall be spent on the procurement of PPE kits and thirty percent on the procurement of masks.

Member of Parliament has directed the chief medical officers to coordinate with the nodal district MPLADS to ensure procurement of the equipment on urgent basis.  Masoodi has also directed the CMOs to distribute N95 masks, and three layers masks amongst the health professionals including para medical staff at all district hospitals and primary health care centers of all the concerned districts.

Masoodi said the dolling out of amount from his MPLAD fund is a humble effort towards giving necessary boost to the response against the outbreak of disease. “The party is alive to the situation, and we will walk extra mile to lend a hand people in curbing the spread. The situation demands adaptation of existing systems, enhancing of support to the efforts underwent to cope up with the situation,” he said adding, “The government should on priority basis come up with an emergency approach of a coordinated and consistent response to stop the situation from de-escalation. The need of the hour calls for improved surveillance, more emergency clinical services, implementation of public health measures, effective advisories, and greater coordination between different agencies against the threat.”

He further added, “I hope the amount is proficiently used to give flip to the response against the spread. I am persistently in touch with the local authorities and concerned hospitals; I am alive to their needs and standing by to walk an extra mile with them to help curb the spread.”
