Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four militant associates affiliated with militant outfit Lashkar e Toiba and recovered arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Sopore and Handwara.

Reports said that following on specific information about the presence of two militant associates in Noorbagh area of Sopore, a joint team operation was launched by police, army and CRPF, during the raid two militant associates were arrested.

A senior police official said the duo were providing logistic support to active militants of LeT.

He said arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

He added that acting on a tip-off, a joint team of SOG and army arrested two persons during a raid at Shalpora area of Langate in Handwara last night.

He identified the arrested persons as Azad Ahmad Bhat of Shalpora and Altaf Ahmad Baba of Rafiabad.

“Two grenades, two pistols, one letter pad of LeT besides other incriminating material were recovered from their possession,” the officer said.

In this connection, two FIR’s under section 7/25 arms act were registered and further investigations were taken up, he said. (GNS)
