SRINAGAR: National Conference Member of Parliament from Anantnag (Retd) Justice Hasnain Masoodi on Friday convened a meeting of district administration at DC Office Shopian to review the ongoing development activities in the district.

In a statement, NC spokesman said that during the meeting the district commissioner Choudhary Muhammad Yasin gave a sector-wise overview of the undergoing development activities in the district.  On the occasion district heads of various administrative departments also acquainted the Member of Parliament about the development activities underway in the district.  The Member of Parliament was also informed about the array of efforts undertaken by the district administration towards combating the COVID-19 crises.

He said that while interacting with the concerned heads of departments, Masoodi asked them to give a flip to the development activities in the district in view of the approaching winter months. He also asked the administration to remain alive to the problems, the people of the district are facing.

He also impressed upon the concerned PHE, PDD, and other departments to augment their infrastructure in order to ensure basic and effective amenities to all.

He raised the issue of frequent power cuts, shortage of water and ramshackle roads and alleys with the concerned authorities asking them to expedite the up-gradation, and restoration activities in the district.

The Member of Parliament also sought detailed overview of the implementation of various central schemes in the district and asked the concerned officials to ensure cent percent transparency in it in order to make certain that the benefit of the schemes reaches to eligible beneficiaries.

On the occasion, the MP was informed that a Mega fruit mandi with added state of art cold storage facilities was coming up in the district.  It was also brought to MP’s notice that the amount earmarked for the district from MPLAD fund has been judiciously spent in acquiring four ventilators, and that procurement of dialysis machine was also in offing.  It was also brought to the MP’s notice by the concerned officials that nearly 50% of the households have access to tap water and that the concerned department was working to increase the connectivity.

Masoodi also sought improvisation of the response of the district administration to weather vagaries and calamities on modern lines.

He impressed upon the district administration to start preparing for the forthcoming winter months. He also underscored the need of having a buffer stock of power transformers and establishment of a repairing workshop for it as well in the district to meet the local demands during winter months.

The spokesman said that the Member of Parliament also discussed issues concerning agriculture, and horticulture with the officials, underscoring the importance of investing in the processing sector and other allied secondary and tertiary agriculture activities.
