The workers of Ghulam Hassan Mir, Agriculture minister in Omar Abdulla’s cabinet were caught red-handed while pasting anti-election posters in Tangmarg locality last evening.
Mir is contesting from Gulmarg assembly segment which is voting today in the third phase of elections.
Sources said that workers of Mir, who is heading his ‘Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN)’ were caught pasting the posters in favour of poll boycott at a village in Tangmarg.
“Though the villagers nabbed the Mir’s supporters but they managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness,” they said adding “however, the driver of the vehicle, hired by Mir’s nephew Ishfaq Mir was arrested by police.” “ The number of the Innova car is JK01T 4955,” they said.
Police have also confirmed the incident. “The driver is in our custody,” a police official said.
Sources identified the workers as Bashir Ahmad Ganai, Ghulam Mohammad Rather and Abdul Hamid Hajam.
Meanwhile, Police on monday arrested the Public Relation Officer (PRO) and another close aide of Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin for allegedly distributing money among voters.
“The duo was taken into custody from Limber area of Uri Assembly segment and a report has been sent to the District Election Officer (DC Baramulla),” sources said.
They added that the PRO, Iqbal Choudhry, and Master Ghulam Mohuiddin “had the voters list and were calling out names of the residents and handing over money to them.
However, the Public Relations Officer of Minister of Health and Medical Education has strongly refuted the contents of the news regarding his arrest.
In a statement the PRO described the news report as “fare moved from truth” and “a result of distortion of facts”.
