The residents of Hayan area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to repair the defunct transformer of the village.

The locals assembled on the Trehgam-Kupwara road at Hayan and blocked it in the early morning hours. They also raised slogans against the Power Development Department.

According to the residents, the transformer developed some technical snag and was taken away by the concerned PDD officials for repairs to Tikker workshop. “However, the officials have failed to repair the transformer and install it back. They are delaying the repairing of a transformer for some unknown reason,” said Saleem Wani a local.

He said the people were suffering immensely due to the non-availability of the electricity.

The residents sought the intervention of the Chief Engineer PDD in this regard.

Due to the protest, traffic remained suspended for around two hours.

Later, Station House Officer Trehgam and other officials visited the spot and pacified the protesters, assuring them that electricity will be restored in the area soon.
