On 23rd anniversary of Hazratbal siege, the Democratic Freedom Party-led by Shabir Shah has termed the day as heart wrenching incident of Kashmir history.

In a statement, a DFP spokesperson said the Indian and state rulers deliberately gave rise to such a tragedy the pain of which can be felt even today.

“During the Hazratbal siege, the whole state reverberated with slogans demanding freedom from Indian occupation,” the spokesperson said. “Then, under a well planned conspiracy, Indian occupational forces while trying to desecrate the sanctity of religious places started laying siege of Dargah Hazratbal and repeated the massacres in nook and corner of the valley.”

Paying glowing tributes to those martyred on the occasion, the spokesperson said 65 innocent people (including those from Bijbehara and Srinagar) were gunned down by brutal forces and hundreds others injured.

“We salute the sacrifices of those martyrs and reiterate the pledge of taking their mission towards the goal of freedom,” he said.
