SRINAGAR: Several residential houses were inundated in Pahlipora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday morning after heavy rainfall triggered severe waterlogging, prompting police and disaster response teams to launch rescue and relief operations, officials said.
According to officials, rainwater entered multiple houses, disrupting normal life and causing panic among residents.
Police personnel, assisted by teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), reached the affected area and began evacuating residents and carrying out relief measures.
Officials said efforts were underway to shift affected families to safer locations wherever required, drain the accumulated water from inundated areas and assess the extent of the damage.
Meanwhile, authorities said social media reports attributing the flooding to a cloudburst could not be confirmed. They said there was no official confirmation of a cloudburst, and the exact cause of the inundation was being verified.
The district administration said it was closely monitoring the situation as rescue operations continued.
