SRINAGAR: Heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir has led to a continuous rise in the water level of the Tawi River in Jammu, prompting authorities to advise people to stay away from the riverbanks as more intense showers are forecast across the Union Territory.
Officials urged residents to avoid venturing near the river and other vulnerable areas as the weather conditions remain unstable. Authorities have also issued weather advisories, cautioning people living in landslide- and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.
Amid the adverse weather, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has postponed the Class 11 Annual Private and Bi-Annual examinations that were scheduled to be held on July 23.
The postponement comes as persistent rainfall continues to affect normal life in several parts of the Union Territory, with authorities monitoring the situation closely.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast further spells of heavy rainfall, raising concerns over a possible increase in river levels, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas. Authorities have advised the public to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, streams and other water bodies.
