SRINAGAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted wet weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir during the coming week, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely at several places, particularly in the Jammu division.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, isolated light rain and thunderstorms are expected over Kashmir division during the next 24 hours, while Jammu division is likely to receive fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. The department said there would be no major change in weather conditions during the subsequent two days.
As per the forecast issued at 11 am on July 4, Kashmir is expected to witness isolated rainfall activity on July 4 and 5, scattered showers on July 6, fairly widespread rainfall on July 7 and 8, followed by scattered to isolated activity on July 9 and 10.
The Jammu division is expected to remain more active, with fairly widespread rainfall from July 4 to 6, widespread showers on July 7 and 8, and fairly widespread rainfall activity on July 9 and 10.
The MeT department has issued a weather advisory for Jammu division, warning of isolated thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph on July 4, 5, 9 and 10.
It further predicted isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds from July 6 to 8. The weather activity may trigger landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods at vulnerable locations during this period.
For Kashmir division, the department has predicted isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph on July 7 and 8.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours till 8:30 am Saturday, the maximum temperature remained 0-2°C above normal in most parts of Kashmir and 0-3°C above normal at many places in Jammu division.
Srinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir division at 31.7°C, while Jammu recorded 37.3°C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Gulmarg at 12.2°C in Kashmir and Bhaderwah at 18.1°C in Jammu division.
The weather office said Poonch recorded 32 mm of rainfall during the period.
For Sunday, Srinagar is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 32°C maximum and 21°C minimum, while Jammu may see partly cloudy weather with light rain or thunderstorms and temperatures around 35°C maximum and 28°C minimum.
The department has advised people, especially those living in vulnerable areas, to remain updated and exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
