Normal life in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district paralyzed on Monday due to heavy snowfall in the region from past two days.

As per official figures, in Kupwara, the plain areas received nearly two feet snow while in the upper reaches, it was around four feet.

Reports from the frontier district said that the snowfall continued incessantly during the night, which leads to the closure of major roads in the district.

The students told Kashmir Life over the phone that they could not go to their tuition centres office at Kupwara town due to non-availability of conveyance.

“The snow on the road has not been cleared yet and vehicles are halted in their garages,” he said.

The accumulation of snow on roads has restricted people, especially old and children, to their homes. Most of the tuition centres in the district remain closed.

The access to health care has become difficult for the public due to closure to roads.

The already ailing power supply system has been hit badly. The power supply to most of the district has been cut off. The lack of power supply has created huge crises in the district.

District Commissioner Kupwara, Anshul Garg told Kashmir Life that administration has started clearing snow from roads. The snow clearing machines have been pressed into service. He added that the technical snag in the power supply line will be fixed and by evening the power supply to most of the villages will be restored.

Notably, district administration issued snow avalanche warning for sensitive areas
