SRINAGAR

Due to heavy snowfall all across Kashmir, enormous water-logging problems occured on the main and other connecting roads of the Srinagar City on Wednesday. Almost all the interior and main roads were inundated while people found it difficult to cross the roads. Some people were seen requesting the private vehicle owners to help them cross the road.

Heavy water logging was reported from Jawahar Nagar, Exhibition Road, Raj Bagh, Batamaloo and other parts of the city.

For the pedestrians, it was a double nightmare as at several places the pits were open and various people while wading through filthy waters slipped down.

People alleged that such situation has arisen because of the inaction of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. “The action of SMC is limited to face book only where the Corporation posts some of the photographs about its achiements but on ground it remains invisible. No dewatering pumps were used to drain the waters from the roads and streets,” one of the pedestrian Abdul Lateef said.

People alleged that snow clearance operation is also running at a snail’s pace. “Snow is accumulated everywhere and even on some of the main roads snow has not been cleared,” another pedestrian said.

In old city, water logging and inundation became the source of inconvenience for large number of people on Wednesday. At number of places including Khanyar, people used push-carts to cross the inundated roads.
