Six pilgrims were killed on Monday when a helicopter ferrying them to the Vaishno Devi temple crashed soon after taking a flight from Sanjhichatt near Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The chopper crashed in Katra Bus Stand.

A police official in Katra Police Station while confirming the accident said all the pilgrims travelling in the helicopter died in the crash, including a woman pilot. The crashed chopper belonged to the Himalayan Heli Services Pvt LTD, established in 2002 by Harsh Vardhan Sharma and Wangchuk Shamshu, in order “to serve piligrims at Holy Shrine, including Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Shri Amarnathji and Shri Kedarnathji shrines.

However, the police official said, the reason behind the crash is yet to be ascertained.
