SRINAGAR: A hideout was unearthed in a remote area of Poonch district on Wednesday, with ammunition recovered during a joint search operation by the Army and police, officials said.
The hideout, located inside a cave at Bhoriwala Dhok in Surankote tehsil, was found during a search carried out by the police and the Rashtriya Rifles. Officials said two magazines of an AK rifle, 117 rounds of ammunition and 17 rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition were recovered from the site.
The recovery comes as the Army and police continue search operations in the forested areas of Surankote following reports of suspected militant movement in the Dhara Sangla and Gujjar Naar areas. Searches have been underway in more than a dozen villages since Tuesday, though officials said no contact with the suspected militants had been established till Wednesday. The operation was continuing when reports last came in.
In a separate development, the Army and police conducted searches in the Sunail Panchayat area of Akhnoor after a resident reported suspicious movement. Police and the CRPF also carried out a joint search from Parshuram Temple to Jandi Nallah in Kathua’s Hiranagar area as part of an area-domination exercise. No suspicious persons or material were found during either operation, officials said.
