In a clear rebuff to chief minister Omar Abdullah, PCC President Prof Saif ud din Soz said on Saturday that the final decision on pre-poll alliance with National Conference for 2014 Assembly elections in the state rested with Congress high command.

Soz was addressing party workers here at PCC office on the thanksgiving occasion held to celebrate the victory of coalition government in legislative council polls.

“Congress party high command has the final authority to decide the 2014 elections, while CM Omar Abdullah has every right to talk about this matter,” Soz said.

On November 23, Omar Abdullah had hinted at a pre-poll alliance between his National Conference (NC) and coalition partner Congress in the next Assembly polls due in 2014. “The (decision to) contest election for the four Legislative Council seats by National Conference and Congress jointly indicates the grand alliance of the two parties to face 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” he had said.

Soz’s reaction, coming within days after Omar’s statement, is almost coinciding with NC leader Dr Mustafa Kamal’s statement on the issue. Kamal, the youngest of the surviving two sons of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, has stated that a future alliance with NC will be decided by the party. Omar, he said, is offering his personal opinion and not the party decision.
