In yet another incident, cavalcade of Minister for Higher Education Minister Muhammad Akbar Lone was attacked by agitated youth after attending workers meeting at Sadarkot Bala in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

According to reports, Lone visited Sadarkot Bala to attend a meeting of National Conference workers. As the meeting was over and the cavalcade of the Minister started moving ahead, scores of youth amid pro-freedom slogans targeted his cavalcade and pelted stones on it.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that the youth encircled the Ministers cavalcade from all the sides and resorted to heavy stone pelting. The security guards of Lone acted as a shield and successfully managed to take the cavalcade out from the troubled situation.

“Eyewitnesses told CNS that security personnel accompanying the Minister exercised restraint and did not use force to disperse the pelters. “It were policemen who saved the Minister. They provided him cover and took him out from the troubled areas,” one of witnesses said.

Despite repeated attempts, Minister for Higher Education could not be contacted while, Divisional Officer Ajas Nazir Ahmed termed the reports baseless and said no such incident occurred in the area.

Pertinently, Lone was targeted by youth in Hajin, Markundal and Safapora in past as well.
