Captured militant with cops in Udhampur.

The captured militant being interrogated at the moment by NIA has given Police a ‘vital’ lead on his journey to Udhampur after which police party has launched a manhunt to nab the Kulgam driver who had dropped the two militants at Udhampur Wednesday morning.

During questioning, the captured militant with three names—Qasim, Usman and Naved—has told the cops that the two militants who attacked the BSF convoy yesterday at Udhampur were lifted to Udhampur from Kashmir by a Kulgam truck driver.

“The truck driver took the two militants from Kulgam up to Patnitop last night,” the police official said. “They had night halt in the truck between Patnitop and Kud and travelled towards Samroli Wednesday morning.” The official said the truck driver dropped the militants at Narsu and returned. They also had tea at a dhaba at Narsu before launching the strike.

The militants, said the official, had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara sector of Kashmir about two months back. “They (militants) were staying with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commanders at different places,” the official said.
