SRINAGAR

As expected, Valley Wednesday received fresh bout of snowfall as temperature in the summer capital Srinagar dipped to Zero degrees Celsius.

“Light snowfall was recorded at many places in Kashmir Valley including in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Kokernag, Kulgam and Kupwara,” a MET department official told CNS adding that reports of fresh snowfall has been received from other parts of Kashmir Valley.

Due to fresh snowfall, the authorities closed Srinagar-Jammu High way and did not permit Jammu bound vehicles to cross the tunnel. However, the stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards Srinagar.

Pertinently, on New Year’s eve normal life was disrupted all across Kashmir due to heavy snowfall. Reports said that South Kashmir received a major snowfall. Residents of Qazigund staged a protest against the non-availability of electricity and drinking water. Fresh snowfall has also led to the water-logging in different parts of Kashmir including Srinagar city.
