The Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed from both sides for all types of vehicles after landslides hit the 300 km road last night.

The highway, only link which connects Kashmir to the rest of the world will be completely closed for traffic for the next 24 hours due to landslides in Mehar and Digdol area of Ramban district.

“No traffic will be allowed from both sides of highway, due to the landslides. Authorities have issued an order to clear the highway for traffic as soon as possible. It may take next 24 hours to restore the traffic,” said an official from traffic control room.

He further said that the landslides at Mehar Ramban which created disturbance in the traffic was cleared late last night. Another landslide occurred at Digdol that will take next five hours to be cleared but the traffic will be allowed after 24 hours.

More than 2000 vehicles are stranded on the highway, sources said.
