SRINAGAR

The Srinagar-Jammu Highway continued to remain closed for the fifth consecutive day Friday after heavy snow and rainfall damaged the highway almost at two places and landslides hamper the vehicular traffic.

Traffic police sources said that if weather permits and the condition of the highway was trafficable, the stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards their destinations.

The heavy rains and snowfall on Monday caused landslides at some places which forced the closure of the road.

They said that landslides have occurred at Gumroo in Banihal and other places which led to the closure of the highway.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather would be unexpected for one another week with increased precipitation from March 8.

The department predicted light rains or snow at some places in the plains with heavy falls in the higher reaches.
