SRINAGAR: Police have arrested a driver and seized the vehicle allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident at Chak Rody Khan in Sopore within 24 hours of the incident.
The accident took place when a motorcycle, bearing registration number JK09E-3415 and carrying two persons, was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The driver allegedly fled the spot after the collision.
The injured persons were shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for treatment. Police subsequently registered FIR No. 240/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
As part of the probe, police examined CCTV footage from the accident site and adjoining routes and used technical inputs to trace the vehicle and identify its driver.
The vehicle was subsequently traced and seized, while the accused driver, identified as Arif Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Aziz Dar of Gund Jageer, Bandipora, was arrested.
Meanwhile, one of the injured persons, Haziq Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir of Kehnoosa, Bandipora, succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. The other injured person is undergoing treatment.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional legal provisions will be incorporated following the death of the injured person.
