Police solved a hit and run case in two days by arresting the driver along with the vehicle.

Police solved a hit and run case in which an unknown sumo hit and injured a Scooty driven by Bashir Ahmad Parray resident of Natipora, Sriangar near Lasjan bridge on 22th of July 2015. The injured later on succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura, Srinagar. The accused driver Mohammad Shafi Mir son of Abdul Aziz Mir resident of Aripal, Tral was arrested and the Sumo bearing registration number JK03B/8646 was seized. A case FIR No. 59/15 under section 279, 337, 304 A RPC has been registered against him in Police Station Pantha Chowk, a police statement said Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the police said that in its efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse, police destroyed the Cannabis cultivation on dozens of kanals in Bandipora.

Under the supervision of SSP Bandipora, a police party headed by SDPO Sumbal and SHO Sumbal launched a drive against illegal cultivation of cannabis. During the drive the cannabis cultivation on dozens of kanals was destroyed on spot. Police will continue the drive in future.

The police statement further said that two persons were injured in two separate road accidents in Kupwara.

A Taveera bearing registration number JK01P/0308 hit and injured a pedestrian Ghulam Hassan Wani resident of Sohipora, Kupwara at Bypass Kupwara. The injured was shifted to District Hospital Kupwara wherefrom he was referred to Bones and Joints Hospital Barzulla, Srinagar for further treatment.

A Maruti car bearing registration number JK09/3428 skidded of the road near Dragmulla, resulting in injuries to Ghulam Mohammad Gojree resident of Khargund Dragmulla. The injured was shifted to District Hospital Kupwara for treatment.

Police also arrested a drug peddler and recovered 22 bottles of codeine phosphate from his possession.

SHO Bijbehara Nissar Ahmad along with police party under the supervision of SDPO Bijbehara established a naka at Bypass Arwani in Bijbehara. During the naka checking a motorcycle bearing registration number JK03A/6980 was stopped. On checking 22 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from the possession of motorcyclist identified as Nisar Ahmad Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Hasanpora Bagh Kulgam. The accused was arrested and a case FIR No. 143/2015 under section 8,21,22 NDPS was registered against him and investigation was taken up.
