Sarpanch turned Lawmkaer, Aijaz Ahmad Mir

Blaming opposition National Conference for the worsening political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party legislator from Wachi area of Shopian district Aijaz Mir said that NC was responsible for oppressing Jama’at-e-Islami in 1979 and poll rigging in 1987.

“National Conference had unleashed reign of terror and brutal repression on the members and sympathizers of Jama’at-e-Islami in Kashmir in 1979. And then in 1987 the party rigged assembly elections that sparked off militancy. Both these historical incidents perpetrated by the NC set the state on or fire and today we are in this whole mess because of them,” Mir said in his motion of thanks on Governor N N Vohra’s address to the Legislature earlier this week.

Blaming all the political parties, mainstream and separatists, for messing up Kashmir situation, Mir said that they all need to put their heads together to “douse the fire.”

“Since we all are affected by the political issue of Kashmir, and being representatives of the people across the state we should always pitch for its resolution through dialogue and peaceful ways,” Mir said.

The PDP leader said that government of India should hold dialogue with Hurriyat so as to find out the political resolution of Kashmir issue.

While Mir was speaking all the members listened to him keenly and thumped their benches in applaud.

Commenting upon the summer uprising, Mir, who is also General Secretary of Youth PDP, condemned the killings of civilians and violence during the uprising.

Lauding the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for her role in development of the state and “making all her efforts” for resolution of Kashmir issue, Mir said that only PDP under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti can help in uplifting people and resolve the long pending issue.

“People across the state have firm belief that only Mehbooba ji and PDP will work for the development of the whole state and their empowerment,” he said.
