According to the weather department, generally hot and humid conditions are likely from August 27 to 30, with isolated spells of rain or thundershowers.

On August 31 and September 1, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, with the possibility of brief intense showers during the early morning and afternoon.

The weather is forecast to remain generally dry from September 2 to 7, although isolated rain or thundershowers may occur during the morning and afternoon.

The Meteorological Centre has warned that intense, localised showers on August 31 and September 1 could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.

People living in or travelling through hilly and other vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert during periods of heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, farmers have been advised that they can continue harvesting and other agricultural activities.
