SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to reconsider the recently approved electricity tariff increase, saying the higher charges would add to the burden on people already facing rising costs.
In a post on X, the former chief minister also expressed concern over reports that police had allegedly detained PDP workers who were protesting against the tariff hike.
The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has approved an average 6.83 per cent increase in electricity tariffs in JK, with the revised rates scheduled to take effect from September 1.
Mufti called for the tariff decision to be reviewed to provide relief to poorer households.
