SRINAGAR: A houseboat partially sank after water entered its structure along the Bund area of the River Jhelum in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Thursday, prompting a rescue response.
According to SDRF officials, the incident resulted in waterlogging inside the houseboat and led to partial sinking, causing concern in the area.
Soon after receiving information, teams from the SDRF and River Police rushed to the spot and launched rescue and evacuation operations.
Rescue personnel entered the affected houseboat and shifted belongings to safer locations amid rising water levels inside the structure.
The operation focused on preventing further damage and securing movable property belonging to the houseboat owner.
Officials said rescue teams successfully evacuated household belongings and ensured that the situation remained under control.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, has advised residents, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to exercise caution during rainfall activity. It also warned of possible disruptions due to gusty winds and isolated hailstorms in parts of the region.
