A day after former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said it will be interesting to see who will compromise, PDP or BJP on the revocation of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and resumption of dialogue with Pakistan, the BJP Saturday reacted telling Omar to recall how many “compromises he made during the NDA Rule.”

The party also asserted that they wanted to ensure full voting rights and proper citizenship for the West Pakistan refugees on humanitarian grounds and claimed the move will not change the JK’s demography as claimed by separatists and some mainstream parties.

“BJP is firm on its stands. As people have rejected Omar’s party he is frustrated and so he talks like that. Omar should recall how many compromises he made during the NDA rule (1998-2004),” BJP National Executive Member and core group member Dr Nirmal Singh told KNS.

Singh claimed that it was Omar first who approached BJP for government formation. “I can tell you that it was not BJP who approached him (Omar) for government formation but the fact is that soon after the poll results he approached BJP for the government formation. Even Omar Abdullah was ready to compromise on certain issues.”

Commenting on the issue of settlement of West Pakistan refugees, the BJP leader said, “They have been living under miserable condition since past many decades and the party wants to rehabilitate them. Why National Conference leaders are against the move when we have Tibetans living in Srinagar who have been given voting rights by National Conference.”

He said that West Pakistan refugees must get their identity in the form of proper citizenship. “Once they will have the citizenship, they would automatically be entitled to vote.” The BJP leader said.

Singh claimed that the settlement of some 60,000 West Pakistan refugees who have been suffering on all fronts can in no way affect or change the demography of the State. “Some people are wrongly linking this issue with the demography of JK, which is not the case. The BJP’s policy is clear that these people must get their identity,” he said.

It is to mention here that Omar on Friday asked PDP and BJP if they would compromise on some of the key issues like AFSPA, resumption of talks with Pakistan and rights of West Pakistan refugees.

“Who will compromise over the immediate resumption of dialogue with separatists’ compromise on AFSPA, PDP or BJP? Omar wrote in a series of tweets on Friday.

While BJP has been a strong votary of the controversial act, PDP has been calling for its revocation from the state.
