As Hurriyat (g) Chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani called for shutdown on Saturday against a High Court Order banning beef in Jammu and Kashmir, many of its leaders were detained by police late Thursday evening.

Spokesperson of the amalgam said, “besides the continuous house imprisonment of Syed Ali Geelani, the state administration this evening detained Tehreek-e-Hurriyat general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, district president Srinagar and Ganderbal Raja Mehraj-ud-din, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar and many other Hurriyat conference leaders either under house arrest or in police stations.”

The spokesperson added, “dozens of residences of other Hurriyat leaders and activists have also been raided by the police.”
