Expressing serious concern over the continuous house arrest of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence, the Hurriyat spokesman has strongly condemned the continuous arrest of Hurriyat leaders in their homes, jails, police stations and other thousands of Kashmiri youth who are languishing in Kashmir and outside jails.

In a statement, the spokesman Monday said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to attend a Seerat conference at the residence of senior resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani at Hyderpora. However, Mirwaiz because of his continuous house arrest could not leave his house. The spokesman further said that police  did not allow the Seerat conference to take place.

Terming the action of police and administration as extremely dictatorial and fascist, the spokesman said such an act amounts to the direct intervention of the state in religious matters of individuals. The spokesman condemned the police action in strong terms and said that nobody has the right to stop Muslims from discharging their religious duties, adding, such actions are intolerable and anti-religion.
