Srinagar

Terming October 27 as the most unfortunate day for the people of Kashmir in the recent history, Hurriyat Conference (m) on Friday denounced the approach of government by imposing curbs and curfew and strict restrictions on the movement of the people and putting its chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house confinement.

A spokesperson of the amalgam in a statement said that because of the restrictions for the fifth consecutive week no Friday prayers could be offered in Kashmir’s grand mosque (Jamia Masjid).

He termed the action of the authorities as vindictive and while condemning it said that these actions amount to the direct interference in religious affairs of the people and these means of oppression are used under a well-planned policy to crush the resolve of people besides choking the economy of downtown Srinagar to punish the people for their unflinching support to the movement.

The spokesperson said the dictatorial attitude adopted by the Jammu and Kashmir government is aimed to weaken the popular political sentiment of the people of Kashmir and strongly condemned the Government for resorting to frequent imposition of curfews in downtown and caging a huge population in their homes.
