A glittering seminar was held on Tuesday at town hall Kupwara to pay glowing tributes to Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone on their anniversaries. The seminar was presided over by Bilal Gani Lone while as Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq couldn’t attend the seminar as he continues to remain under house detention.

The spokesman said senior APHC leaders Professor Abdul Gani Bhat and JKLF activist Master Muhammad Afzal, Hurriyat leaders Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Abdul Majeed Banday participated in the seminar.

In his address, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat while paying rich tributes to two leaders said that Kashmir issue is purely a humanitarian issue and in the wake of changing geopolitical scenario, the resolution of Kashmir issue has become inevitable.  He said Kashmir was the main source of tension between the two nuclear powers—India and Pakistan and until this issue is resolved as per the aspirations of people, peace can’t prevail in South Asia. He said time has come when the two countries must shun their bitterness and start a sustained dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue as per the aspirations of people.

Addressing the gathering, Bilal Gani Lone also paid tributes to two leaders stating that both worked hard for the resolution of Kashmir issue. He said that Hurriyat Conference is a genuine political forum representing the true aspirations of people of Kashmir. Lone said he is a staunch believer that the resolution of issues likes in strengthening the hands of leadership and remaining steadfast on the mission and towards the goal. He said whatever decision comes from the leadership have to be abided in true letter and spirit.

Meanwhile, APHC strongly condemned the slapping of PSA on those who participate in the funeral of slain youth stating that such acts amount to a brazen violation of basic principles of democracy and humanity.  The spokesman also denounced the police action wherein Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ghulam Ahmed Bhat and his son Aqib Gulzar has been arrested and lodged in a police station. He said a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activists Bashir Ahmed Lone and Muhammad Rafiq Shah too have been detained for no reason stating the government has been resorting to ultimate repression to break the resolve of people of Kashmir and now the fresh trend of slapping PSAs on people attending funeral speaks volumes government’s iron-fist policy.

The spokesman also condemned the continuous house detention of APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, barring him from carrying out his social and religious duties in the holy fasting month terming it as a political vendetta.
