Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday convened a joint meeting of Hurriyat executive council, general council and working committee at conglomerates headquarter located at Rajbagh Srinagar.
According to a statement issued to KNS, terming the tangible changes in relations between Indian and Pakistan in context of geo-political realties as “encouraging,” the participants said the Kashmiri participation in any talks between the two countries aimed to solve Kashmir issue was inevitable.
They said the time has come that India should adopt a realistic approach and encourage debate on Kashmir issue publicly, adding, every domain of the public should be allowed to opine views freely so that a constructive thinking emerges paving way to take steps in a bid solve the Kashmir issue.
The participants in the meeting said intimidation and force against political leaders having opinion regarding Kashmir cannot hide the truth that Kashmir is not a political issue.
The meeting resolved that without taking confidence building measures like demilitarization, scrapping of draconian laws, release of political prisoners, to create a conducive atmosphere, no talks aimed to solve the vexed dispute could yield result. The participants also took stock of different cells of Hurriyat and decided to strengthen its activities. They also took several decisions pertaining to the recommendations of the head of the different cells of APHC.
The meeting also expressed concern over delaying of court hearing of hundreds of Kashmiris prisoners lodged in Kashmir and outside Jails. They also condemned the ill treatment meted out by the Kashmiri traders and students outside the state.
The meeting directed the Legal Cell of the Hurriyat to visit to the different jails and to look into the matters of prisoners and provide them legal help, adding, they were also directed to ensure that jail manual was properly followed in case of Kashmiri prisoners.
The participants sternly condemned the random wanton arrests of youth across Kashmir saying such tactics would not help in oppressing the freedom loving people of Kashmir.
