SRINAGAR: An Air Force Jawan committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at Air Force Station Udhampur, this morning.
Reports said that Air force Jawan, namely LAC Shubham Singh Parmar (22), son of Vijay Bhadur Singh, resident of Jawahar Nagar, Harirpur road Ghatampur District Kanpur, was on duty at Udhampur Air force Station when he shot himself with his service rifle Insas, around 9.30 am.
They said that he was immediately shifted to Army Hospital Udhampur where doctors declared him as brought dead.
An official said the dead body was sent to District Hospital Udhampur for the postmortem. The Police after completion of all the legal formalities and postmortem handed over the body to Air Force authorities.
The exact cause of provocation behind the extreme step was not known. In this connection, Inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated at Police Station Udhampur, said an official.
