SRINAGAR: The central deputation tenure of senior IAS officer Nitishwar Kumar, who previously served as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has been extended until his superannuation in August 2027.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the continuation of Kumar’s central deputation beyond September 30, 2026, up to August 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Kumar, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The order also provides for the continuation of the temporary upgradation of the post during the extended period.
Kumar was brought to Jammu and Kashmir in 2020 in relaxation of the applicable policy and served as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor from 2020 to 2022.
Following his tenure in JK, he returned to central deputation and has been serving in the Ministry of Women and Child Development since September 2022.
Before his JK posting, Kumar also served in the Ministry of Railways as Private Secretary to the Minister of State from 2014 to 2018 and held several administrative assignments in Uttar Pradesh, including as District Magistrate of Pratapgarh and Firozabad.
The latest decision allows Kumar to continue in his present central assignment until his scheduled retirement on August 31, 2027, unless the deputation is ended earlier through further orders.
