For the first time in Kashmir Valley, the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, a statutory body under an ACT of Parliament, conducted exams at the University of Kashmir for students pursuing intermediate and final program of Cost and Management Accountancy of India. The exams started on June 11 and concluded on June 18 while as the examination for the foundation course shall start from June 23 this month.

According to a local news agency, GNS, Professor Mohi-Ud-Din Sangmi, Head Department of Business and Financial Studies said the University had put in lots of efforts in convincing the institute to establish a centre for exams here at KU.

He said setting of an exams centre in the valley would benefit many students who want to pursue their careers in cost and management accountancy from the ICAI.

“In the absence of an exams centre here, students would have to go outside the state for appearing in the ICAI exams and were facing lots of hardships there,” Prof Sangmi said.

He said we have got the company secretary ship examination centre in the university, and “we are pursuing the case for having Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams here also.”

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir State Resource Centre, University of Kashmir organized two day sensitization cum work shop at the University of Kashmir for member secretaries and district coordinators of J&K State.

The participants have been sensitized about Saakshar Bharat Programme and its implementation at grassroots level. About 60 participants from all districts of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh participated in the programme.
