SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday watched Mirzapur: The Movie at INOX Multiplex in Shivpora here and interacted with its lead actors Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu, who are in Kashmir to participate in the ongoing International Film Festival Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK).
Tripathi, who reprises his popular role of Kaleen Bhaiya, and Divyenndu, known for his portrayal of Munna Bhaiya in the Mirzapur series, were felicitated by the chief minister during the interaction.
Abdullah welcomed the actors to Jammu and Kashmir and expressed happiness over their participation in the maiden edition of the film festival, an official statement said.
He also appreciated their contribution to Indian cinema and said the participation of leading artistes and filmmakers would help further strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s association with cinema and contribute to the development of a vibrant film ecosystem in the Union Territory.
The screening was part of the ongoing IFFJK, being held under the theme ‘Rang-e-Cinema’.
Abdullah had inaugurated the four-day festival at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on Monday evening.
The maiden edition of the festival has brought together filmmakers, artistes, delegates and cinema enthusiasts from India and abroad, with participation from more than 30 countries and over 130 films being screened during the event.
The festival seeks to celebrate Jammu and Kashmir’s enduring association with cinema while providing a platform for filmmakers and audiences to engage with diverse cinematic traditions from across the world.
Former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, Director Information Shreya Singhal and other officials were present on the occasion.
