At least four persons including a lady were reported injured when soldiers reportedly opened fire on people who vandalised their Iftaar party stall in a Shopian village, reports reached here said.

Details revealed that 34-Rashtriya Rifles went to Dradi Kali Pora village and raised a stall outside the local mosque. They had taken some food items for the Iftaar party. Residents said they had asked the Imam Sahab based army camp not to go with the plan because the youth were angry.

As soon as the people came out of the mosque, the angry youth vandalised the stall. It led to tensions and the people resorted to stone pelting. The army men opened fire and at least four persons were injured. One of the injured ladies identified as Shobi Jan, 17, daughter of Abdul Qayoom Hajam, was rushed to Kulgam hospital wherefrom she was shifted to SMHS hospital. Details of other injuries were not immediately known.

Police in Srinagar said they have reports of four injuries but the details are still hazy. The officer said the 12 sector army has denied the details of the event.

Reports said the army wanted to create a goodwill by becoming part of the Ramzan festivities but the people got angry and it led to the tensions.
