SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu and Inspector General (IG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) visited the encounter site in Kathua on Thursday to assess the ongoing anti-militant operation.
Officials said that senior officers, including IGP Jammu and IG CRPF, have been closely monitoring the situation on the ground.
Earlier, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. As they moved in on the suspected location, the forces came under heavy fire, triggering a fierce exchange.
During the gunfight, SDPO Border DySP Dheeraj Katoch, along with four jawans, sustained injuries in the Suffain area of Kathua.
The anti-militant operation remains active, with additional reinforcements deployed to the site. Further details are awaited. (JKNS)
