SRINAGAR : Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Sunday reviewed the security situation, counter-terrorism grid, law and order preparedness and crime scenario during separate meetings in Baramulla and Sopore.
Kumar was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Vinod Kumar.
During his visit to Baramulla, the IGP paid homage to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty at the Martyrs’ Memorial at District Police Lines.
He later chaired a security and operational review meeting attended by SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh and other gazetted officers of the district police.
The SSP briefed the IGP about the prevailing security situation, ongoing counter-terrorism operations, intelligence inputs, area domination measures, security of vulnerable locations, law and order preparedness and the crime situation.
The officers also apprised the IGP about their respective areas of responsibility and operational assignments.
Kumar stressed the need to strengthen intelligence generation at the grassroots level and carry out intelligence-based operations against terrorists and their support networks.
He called for sustained operational pressure and a proactive and coordinated approach among field formations. He also emphasised effective surveillance, improved naka and interception mechanisms and close coordination between different units.
The IGP also inspected Police Station Baramulla and reviewed its functioning. He directed officers and personnel to ensure professional and responsive policing, strengthen crime prevention and investigation, maintain records properly and ensure prompt redressal of public grievances.
Later, Kumar visited Police District Sopore, where SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib, along with SDPOs and Deputy Superintendents of Police (Operations), briefed him about the security situation and measures being undertaken in the district.
The IGP appreciated the efforts of police personnel in both districts and asked them to maintain vigilance and professionalism while working towards ensuring a peaceful and secure environment.
