SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar on Sunday reviewed the security situation, counter-terror operations and law-and-order scenario during visits to Pulwama district and Awantipora police district.
Kumar, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Mattoo, chaired separate review meetings with senior police officers in both jurisdictions.
The meetings were attended by the concerned SSPs, Additional SPs, SDPOs and Deputy SPs of the Special Operations Group, who briefed the IGP on operational preparedness, crime trends and security deployments.
During the meetings, Kumar reviewed the overall security matrix and directed officers to strengthen intelligence-based operations and coordination among different agencies.
He stressed greater focus on both kinetic and non-kinetic counter-terror operations and called for proactive and preventive policing to address emerging security challenges.
The IGP also directed officers to enhance surveillance, strengthen security around vital installations and ensure adequate protection of vulnerable areas and protected persons.
On the law-and-order front, Kumar called for effective action against narcotics and illicit networks, directing officers to intensify anti-drug operations and take action against repeat offenders in accordance with law.
He also stressed the need for people-friendly policing and prompt redressal of public grievances, saying community engagement was essential to strengthening public trust.
Kumar appreciated the commitment and professionalism of police personnel deployed on the ground and urged officers to remain alert and prepared to respond to emerging challenges.
