Inspector General Police (IGP) Traffic, Jammu and Kashmir  Muneer Khan Wednesday ordered all traffic police across the state for strict implementation of Section 4 of the Control of Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and to challan the offenders for smoking in public transport, public places, bus stands etc.

The statement issued to KNS stated that In order to ensure effective implementation of the directions and to check the menace of smoking in Public Transport, the IGP, Traffic Police has directed the traffic police officers to approach to the concerned District Commissioners for challan books for further distribution among the field staff. The field staff viz. Dy.SSP/DTIs/SOs is directed to monitor all the public places and to book the violators under the relevant provisions of the law.

The statement reads further that the orders were issued based on the representation made by A. M. Mir, IAS (Retd), Executive Director J&K Voluntary Health Association (JKVHA), VHAI New Delhi and members of civil society. These people friendly measures have been highly appreciated by JKVHA and members of civil society regarding the anti-tobacco measures ordered by Traffic Police, Jammu & Kashmir.
